Meet the team

With more than a decade’s experience in suiting, Amy has seen it all… at least when it comes to men’s suits. What she hasn’t seen? Quality options for custom suits made exclusively for women.

She’s here to change that.

Amy Bayless

Born and raised in Kansas City, founder Amy Bayless Mortera has carved out a niche for herself in the fashion industry, both locally and nationally.

Growing up, she was surrounded by art, from quilting and embroidery to textile dyeing and painting. Her mother’s passion and skill for nearly all things creative resonated with Amy, but she found herself drawn to the art of turning textiles into garments.

Never one to shy away from her passions, Amy has spent the past 8 years creating apparel and accessories from handwoven fabric with her mother and a team of local weavers, all while working in suiting right here in Kansas City.

But she soon realized there were not only very few options for quality women’s suits in general, but virtually no options for custom suits for women, not just locally but nationwide. So she set out to change that, opening a studio in Kansas City’s West Bottoms neighborhood to create custom suits exclusively for women. Her dream? Channel her love for apparel into helping women feel confident, powerful, and 100% true to themselves.

Tailors & Weavers

  • Maret, Tailor

As a child, Maret would help her grandmother dye fabrics, and in her college years, they lived together while Maret attended her grandmother’s alma mater, the Kansas City Art Institute. Maret says she always wanted to work with handmade fabrics and remembers being in awe of the handmade suits her grandmother would create for herself. When Maret began working with Amy years later, she was nervous for her foray into working with handwoven fabrics, but says once she cut into it, she knew that’s what she was meant to be doing.

  • Morgan, Weaver

Inspired by her mom, grandmother and great aunt, Morgan has always gravitated toward the arts. Not only does it act as a therapeutic tool for self expression, it's also a way of connecting to others. Connecting to Amy, though, that seems like fate. Morgan answered that shot-in-the-dark Craigslist ad for Kansas City weavers and instantly connected to Amy’s vision to create high quality, timeless, luxury goods.

  • Nancy, Weaver

When Nancy fell in love with weaving, no one was more surprised at the newfound passion than she was. Weaving involves a certain amount of math, from calculating sizing to understanding fabric shrinkage, and math was not something she sought out. But Nancy enjoys a challenge, so she took it upon herself to learn more. She joined the Kansas City Weavers Guild, procured a new loom and got to work.
